GRAND HISTORY
The St. Regis Rome, known to earlier generations as Le Grand Hotel, has
been a special place from the very start. Created in 1894 by the legendary
César Ritz, it was the first hotel in Italy with huge entertainment lounges,
where professional, courteous staff took care of its guests. Those days
parties were held only in private palazzos, which made Le Grand Hotel
the unique place in Rome. It housed the very first public Ballroom in the
city and was equipped with the latest technologies of that time: electric
lighting, central heating and private bathrooms provided unparalleled
comfort to its illustrious guests: royalties, heads of state and celebrities.
The recent renovation of the landmark hotel has brought new shine
to its historic grandeur. Pierre-Yves Rochon, who stood at the helm
of the project, created sleek palatial interiors, lavishly adorned with
precious materials. Marble and travertine, Murano-glass chandeliers
and frescoes, imposing columns and arches, a curated collection
of fine art and antiques throughout the hotel, stucco-adorned staircases
and fireplaces make up a place calling to be explored to a minute detail.
A wrought-iron elevator, one of the first in Rome and still functioning,
adds to that timeless charm.
PRECIOUS MOMENTS
No less memorable is the experience at the hotel. For that
The St. Regis Rome has introduced a concept The Art of
Living which incorporates art, cuisine and music in a series
of daily events, available for hotel guests and locals. Every
evening you can enjoy good music and exquisite food
at Lumen, Cocktails & Cuisine, an airy and luminous
signature restaurant of the hotel. Mondays, Wednesdays,
Saturdays and Sundays are dedicated to swing, piano bar
and pop music with bands performing Italian and interna-
tional hits. The Friday Dinner Show features orchestras
from 6 to 9 elements playing American and Italian jazz from
20s to 60s. And sets by leading DJs create a background
for your meals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during
the Lumen Society nights.
Other unmissable events are the Afternoon Tea, enhanced
by the collaboration with Dammann Frères, and the Sabrage,
both held daily at the hotel.
Once a month Lumen hosts The Lumen Talks dedicated
to Rome and different aspects of living in it: from food
to culture and cinema.
