Eco tax on Malta

As of 1 June 2016, Malta will be subject to a formal law on the city/eco tax. This tax will affect all tourists aged 18 years and over and will be levied directly by hotels of Y0.50 cents per night, with a total tax not exceeding Y5.00 for the duration of the stay. This tax concerns tourists of any nationality, provided they have attained the age of 18.

We would also like to remind you that Malta upon arrival at the hotel, they take the guarantee amount when registering. The amount is determined by the hotel according to the duration of stay and the starship of the hotel. This may be a sum (s30-l50, room or person per week or duration of stay) that is cashed as deposit and returns before departure, provided that the hotel/nourier has not been damaged (more common to category 3*-4* hotels) or a certain amount (s100-I-150) is blocked on the credit card, which also enables customers to record at the time of stay in the Territory. Accounts are settled and the guarantee amount is released accordingly. Clients are given a choice to pay in cash or a map, depending on the provisions adopted by each given hotel.
