Medical centers of the world
Traditionally, the countries with the most developed medicine include Germany, Israel, Austria, Switzerland and the United States. New destinations are also highlighted: Turkey, South Korea, Thailand and Mexico.
The Turkish healthcare system has undergone a complete reorganization over the past two decades and is currently among the top ten on the planet. In 2003, the Health Transformation Program was launched in the country, thanks to which 1,282 new hospitals were built and existing ones were modernized. The equipment was completely replaced, robotic surgery systems were installed.
Throughout the country, 19 city hospitals have been opened and 14 more are planned - modern multidisciplinary complexes, where all departments are collected under one roof.
In terms of the number of JCI-accredited clinics, Turkey is in second place in the world (Saudi Arabia is in first place).
During the pandemic, Turkish doctors provided assistance to 162 countries, including the United States, Italy, Spain, and 14 international organizations in the fight against the virus. Turkey has received foreign patients with Covid. More than 600 of them used air ambulances.
In 2023, 1.8 million foreigners from 187 countries (+30% compared to the previous year) turned to Turkish doctors, including those in critical condition. These are patients with oncology, cardiovascular diseases and musculoskeletal diseases.
The services of surgeons, neurosurgeons, and gynecologists are in demand. People also come here for comprehensive examinations, rehabilitation, cell therapy, treatment of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and autism. Aesthetic medicine, hair transplantation, and dentistry are at a high level.
The prices for medical services in Turkey are several times lower than, for example, in the USA and Germany. And Turkish Airlines easily gets here from 127 countries, including the United States and New Zealand.
In Western Europe, clinics in Germany and France occupy leading positions. Medicine is at a high level in Luxembourg, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark.
In Germany, there are 1,700 public and private hospitals, including university clinics, where scientific research is conducted.
The Charite University Hospital in Berlin ranks sixth in the ranking of the best hospitals in the world (World’s Best Hospitals 2024 from Newsweek and Statista). The assessment was conducted among 2,400 medical institutions from 30 countries on all continents. It was in
Charite that HIV was defeated for the first time in the world. Together with Bayer, Charite plans to open a Center for Gene and Cell Therapy in Berlin. Construction will begin in 2025.
The fifteenth line in the above-mentioned ranking is occupied by the oldest hospital in the country - Heidelberg University Hospital, also noted in such areas as neurology, cardiology and cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology. The clinic has an innovative National Center for the Treatment and Research of Oncological Diseases and a Center for the Treatment of Musculoskeletal Diseases.
Patients from 75 countries come to Germany for rehabilitation (neurological, orthopedic, oncological).
Israeli medicine also needs no recommendations. Sheba, the country's largest hospital, ranks 9th in the ranking of the best world clinics in 2024. But even small or specialized clinics that are not included in the rankings offer progressive treatment methods.
Israeli doctors, young specialists, undergo internships in Western Europe and the United States, and treatment protocols in Israel are in many ways similar to American ones.
Thanks to excellent training, an Israeli family doctor is not just a general practitioner. He is the basis of the entire healthcare system. He is able to diagnose most diseases, including oncology, which is why family medicine is highly respected here.
And it is important to note that an Israeli doctor never prescribes unnecessary procedures and unnecessary examinations, does not prescribe untested remedies, and chooses the least traumatic of several alternatives. In addition, in Israel there is such a specialization as a pain specialist, who “closes” many issues with conservative methods where others would suggest surgery.
Often, Israeli doctors are contacted as a last resort, mainly oncologists, orthopedists, neurosurgeons, or to correct the consequences of treatment incorrectly prescribed in other countries.
In Asian countries, the clinics of South Korea and Japan are leaders. In Seoul, this is a multidisciplinary Samsung Medical Center with the latest diagnostic and treatment equipment. It has specialized centers for the treatment of oncological and cardiovascular diseases. There are air ambulance services.
The clinic ranks first in the ranking of the best oncology centers in the Asia-Pacific region in 2024 and 34th in the world ranking. Asan Medical Center, also in Seoul, is in second place. This hospital has centers for diabetes, asthma, genetics, cell therapy, and more.
The first and second places in the world ranking are occupied by the American Mayo Clinic (Rochester) and the Cleveland Clinic.
