Sir Thomas Maytland, Governor of Sri Lanka, met and loved a beautiful dancer named Lavinia and built a residence for her on the rise of the west coast, on the ocean. An extremely beautiful and elegant building with white columns, rubbish ceilings, wide windows for a long period of seven years served as a place of secret lovers' meetings as long as they were in love
