Southern Ocean Lodge is a secluded luxury lodge set directly on the limestone cliffs of Kangaroo Island’s south-west coast, overlooking the Southern Ocean. Its concept is defined by a strong sense of place, bringing together panoramic coastal views, native wildlife, contemporary Australian architecture, local gastronomy and personalised nature-based experiences. The Great Room forms the heart of the lodge, with floor-to-ceiling windows, an open bar, fireplace and sweeping views across Hanson Bay. Twenty-five luxury suites extend along the coastline, while the expansive Baillie Pavilion occupies a commanding clifftop position.
Interiors echo the surrounding landscape through limestone floors, blackwood feature walls, custom-designed furnishings and commissioned works by South Australian artists, all framed by extensive glazing and ocean views. Southern Ocean Lodge is both a place to unwind and a base for discovering Kangaroo Island, described by the property as “Australia’s Galapagos” for its abundant wildlife. Signature guided excursions included in the tariff introduce guests to sea lions, koalas, kangaroos, Remarkable Rocks and other defining island landscapes.
Dining focuses exclusively on local and regional produce through daily-changing menus paired with South Australian wines. Southern Spa extends the lodge’s connection to place with Australian spa products and ingredients sourced from Kangaroo Island. Stays include all gourmet dining, premium South Australian beverages, a replenished in-suite bar, signature guided experiences and return Kangaroo Island Airport transfers. The lodge welcomes children aged ten and over and has received Two MICHELIN Keys.
Southern Ocean Lodge offers 25 luxury suites extending along Kangaroo Island’s limestone coastline, each with open views of the Southern Ocean and surrounding wilderness. Interiors incorporate limestone floors, blackwood feature walls, custom furnishings and works commissioned from South Australian artists. Floor-to-ceiling glazing makes the ocean and constantly changing coastal landscape a defining part of the accommodation. Categories range from the 61 sq. m. Flinders Suite to the 625 sq. m. Baillie Pavilion. Higher categories add separate living areas, fireplaces, private terraces and plunge pools. The Baillie Pavilion combines East and West wings into a four-bedroom private residence suited to families or friends travelling together.

Flights from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island Airport take approximately 40 minutes, with lodge transfers connecting scheduled flights included in the tariff.
