Holidays in Mont Saint-Michel
According to legend, the abbey, built on a granite cliff separated from the mainland by the tides, was founded in the 7th century by the Bishop of Avranches at the behest of the Archangel Michael. The island, developed by monks over several centuries, is today a veritable medieval sanctuary. Long gone are the days when the abbey was a pilgrimage center for monks dreaming of spending the rest of their lives in a holy place. But its magical attraction remains, attracting millions of tourists from all over the world to see this marvelous island.
The highest tide in Europe, approximately 9 meters, is here. The fortress itself, built on the cliff, is accessible only by boat during high tide. At high tide, the water rises at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour! At low tide, you can walk on dry land without getting your feet wet.

Butter, sour cream, cheese, and apples are the main culinary gifts of Normandy villages. Famous Camembert, Livarot, and Pont-L'Evêque cheeses are served with most dishes. Many dishes are prepared with a Normandy-style sour cream sauce ("à la Normande").
