Grindelwald-First is known for sunnier slopes, panoramic views and a snow park.

The Eiger Express and Jungfraujoch

Grindelwald Terminal integrates regional trains with cable-car services to Männlichen and Eigergletscher. Travelling by the Eiger Express and Jungfrau Railway, guests can reach Jungfraujoch from the terminal in approximately 45 minutes.

Jungfraujoch stands at 3,454 metres and is home to Europe’s highest railway station. Its viewpoints overlook the Aletsch Glacier and the surrounding high peaks. The route operates throughout the year, although individual services remain subject to weather and technical conditions. A seat reservation is advisable on clear days and during busy periods.

Summer in Grindelwald

The gondola from central Grindelwald reaches First in approximately 25 minutes. From the upper station, a well-maintained path leads to Lake Bachalpsee, while longer routes continue towards Faulhorn and Schynige Platte. The First Cliff Walk follows the rock face before reaching a panoramic viewing platform.

The Eiger Trail is another defining summer experience, passing below the mountain’s famous north face. Trail conditions vary according to altitude, recent weather and remaining snow. Longer high-level walks and glacier excursions should be planned with an accredited mountain guide.

When to visit

The ski season generally runs from December to early April, subject to snowfall and lift operations. June to September is the most reliable period for hiking, although some high-altitude paths may open later. A stay of five to seven nights allows time for skiing or walking alongside visits to Jungfraujoch and neighbouring villages. Grindelwald is easily reached by train from Interlaken Ost.
