Hotel description

Tierra Patagonia is a secluded luxury lodge on the shores of Lake Sarmiento, neighbouring Torres del Paine National Park. Surrounded by open Patagonian steppe, glacial lakes and dramatic mountain peaks, the lodge places the landscape at the heart of its architecture and guest experience. Its gently curving structure contains just 40 rooms, each designed to frame the shifting light, weather and scenery of Southern Patagonia.

The lodge was designed by renowned Chilean architect Cazú Zegers together with Rodrigo Ferrer and Roberto Benavente. Built with sustainably sourced local lenga wood, its serpentine form appears to merge with the earth and resembles a prehistoric animal resting beside the lake. Panoramic windows, warm timber finishes, crafted furnishings and works by local artisans connect the interiors with Patagonia’s natural environment, culture and history. Spacious communal areas feature a fireplace, library, grand hand-painted map of Patagonia and circular bar, creating the relaxed atmosphere of a welcoming private retreat.

A stay combines contemporary comfort with immersive exploration of Torres del Paine. Expert guides tailor itineraries to each guest’s interests and physical ability, from relaxed scenic drives and wildlife observation to challenging hikes, horseback riding, kayaking and glacier journeys. After a day outdoors, guests can recover at Uma Spa, enjoy contemporary Chilean cuisine and continue watching the mountains from the restaurant, pool or their room. Tierra Patagonia operates seasonally, welcoming guests mainly from October to April.

Accommodation at Tierra Patagonia

Tierra Patagonia offers 40 rooms across three categories: Standard Room, Superior Room and Suite. Their calming palette draws on the tones of local lenga wood, while contemporary furnishings are complemented by textiles, decorative details and works by Patagonian artisans. Expansive windows make the mountains, lake and open steppe an integral part of the interior. Timber-panelled bathrooms feature walk-in rain showers, with deep-soak bathtubs also available in Superior Rooms and Suites. All rooms include central heating and a complimentary minibar stocked with local treats. Superior Rooms can interconnect with neighbouring accommodation for families or groups, while the two-level Suites feature a separate mezzanine lounge and include a personal guide and vehicle for private airport transfers and excursions.
