Davos is a high-altitude Swiss resort in the canton of Graubünden, set approximately 1,560 metres above sea level. It combines several ski mountains, extensive sporting facilities, spa hotels and a substantial cultural programme. Winter days can include downhill and cross-country skiing, snow walks and sledging, while summer is suited to hiking, mountain biking and time beside Lake Davos.

Parsenn and the other ski mountains

Parsenn is the largest and best-known ski area in Davos. Approximately 97 kilometres of prepared pistes connect Davos with Klosters. Its broad slopes are particularly suited to confident skiers, while sufficient snow conditions make it possible to follow the long descent from Weissfluh towards Küblis.

Jakobshorn is popular with snowboarders, freestyle skiers and guests looking for a livelier mountain atmosphere. Rinerhorn offers quieter family skiing and scheduled evening activities. Pischa is associated with winter walking, ski touring and natural-snow terrain; any off-piste itinerary should be undertaken with a qualified mountain guide. Madrisa, above Klosters, is another good choice for families.

Cross-country skiing and winter activities

Davos is one of Switzerland’s principal cross-country skiing destinations. The wider Davos Klosters network provides more than 190 kilometres of classic and skating trails, including illuminated sections and routes for different ability levels.

A winter programme can also include snowshoe walks, sledging and lessons with an instructor. Conditions and operating times should be checked each day, as the individual mountains are not all connected by pistes and may follow different seasonal schedules.

Hotels and resort life

Hotel Seehof Davos is well positioned beside the Parsenn lift, making it convenient for guests who want efficient access to the slopes. AlpenGold Hotel occupies an elevated setting above Lake Davos and offers contemporary accommodation, mountain views and spa facilities. The most suitable choice depends on preferred ski access, transfers, dining arrangements and the desired atmosphere.

Away from the mountains, the Kirchner Museum presents the work of one of the central figures of German Expressionism. Davos also hosts the Spengler Cup ice-hockey tournament in December and the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in January. Accommodation and transport require particularly early planning during major events.

Summer in Davos

During summer, visitors can explore panoramic walking paths, high-level routes on Parsenn and an extensive mountain-bike network. Lake Davos is used for waterside walks and seasonal activities. The principal hiking period usually extends from June to October, although snow and maintenance schedules can affect higher trails and mountain railways.

Five to seven nights provide a comfortable introduction to Davos. The resort is connected by rail with Zurich and other Swiss cities, with most journeys requiring a change at Landquart.
