Flims lies in the Swiss canton of Graubünden and forms one of the country’s largest mountain destinations together with Laax and Falera. Wide blue and red runs suit families and intermediate skiers. Experienced guests can explore the long descent from La Siala to Flims, glacier terrain around Vorab and higher-altitude slopes near Nagens. Dedicated Ami Sabi learning areas are available for children and beginners.

Freestyle and snowboarding

Laax is recognised as one of Europe’s leading freestyle destinations. Its facilities include five snow parks, more than 90 features and one of the world’s longest continuous halfpipes. Flims has a quieter character, making it a good choice for travellers who want to combine access to the entire ski area with forest walks, spa treatments and relaxed evenings.

Lake Cauma and the Rhine Gorge

In summer, turquoise Lake Cauma becomes one of the main reasons to visit Flims. The forest-framed lake is suitable for swimming, paddleboarding and leisurely afternoons beside the water. A longer walk can continue to Lake Cresta and the Il Spir viewing platform above the Rhine Gorge, often called the Swiss Grand Canyon.

The gorge can also be explored on foot, by bicycle, during a guided rafting trip or aboard the Rhaetian Railway. More demanding mountain and river activities should be arranged with experienced local guides.

Where to stay and how to arrive

Central Flims provides convenient access to the ski lifts. Flims Waldhaus is better placed for walks to Lake Cauma, while Laax suits guests primarily interested in skiing, snowboarding and freestyle facilities.

Chur is the nearest major railway station, with regular onward buses to Flims. Five to seven nights allow enough time to explore the ski area in winter or combine the lakes, mountain trails and Rhine Gorge during the warmer months.
