Safaris in Samburu National Reserve
Safari in Samburu National Reserve
Samburu lies in the arid landscapes of northern Kenya, combining rocky terrain, acacia savannah and the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Wildlife includes elephants, big cats and the Samburu Special Five: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich.
Planning the safari
When to visit
Game viewing is possible throughout the year. During drier periods, wildlife tends to gather around the river and other water sources. The rains bring greener scenery, although road conditions may affect individual game-drive routes.
Choosing where to stay
Accommodation is available inside Samburu National Reserve, across the river near Buffalo Springs and in neighbouring conservancies. Location affects transfer times and access to activities such as walking or night safaris.
