Luxury Holidays in Yokohama

Yokohama is a cosmopolitan port city on Tokyo Bay, approximately 30 minutes from central Tokyo. Contemporary architecture stands alongside historic trading districts, landscaped gardens and restored waterfront buildings. The city can be visited as a day trip, although a stay of two or three nights allows time to explore at a more relaxed pace and experience the harbour after dark.

Minato Mirai and the waterfront

Minato Mirai is the natural starting point for a first visit. A waterfront walk connects Landmark Tower, the historic Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, Osanbashi Pier and Yamashita Park. During the day, the route offers views across the harbour towards Yokohama Bay Bridge. In the evening, the illuminated skyline creates one of Japan’s most distinctive urban waterfronts.

The early twentieth-century Red Brick Warehouse now contains shops, restaurants, exhibition venues and spaces for seasonal events. Art museums and the Yokohama Air Cabin are also within easy reach.

Sankeien Garden and historic Yokohama

Sankeien Garden reveals a quieter side of the city. Historic residences, tea houses and other buildings from different regions of Japan are arranged around ponds and wooded paths. The garden is particularly attractive during the cherry blossom season and when the maple leaves change colour in autumn.

A cultural itinerary can continue through Yamate, known for its preserved former foreign residences, before descending towards Motomachi and Yokohama Chinatown.

Waterfront hotels and dining

Including Yokohama in a Japan itinerary

Direct trains connect Tokyo and Yokohama in approximately 20–30 minutes, while Haneda Airport is around half an hour away. Yokohama combines easily with Kamakura, Hakone or a longer journey through Japan. Spring and autumn generally offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring the city on foot.
