The Gemmi Pass

A cable car carries visitors from Leukerbad to the Gemmi Pass. During winter, the high plateau provides prepared walking routes, cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails. One of the best-known routes crosses the area around Lake Daubensee towards Sunnbüel and Kandersteg.

In summer, Gemmi becomes the starting point for mountain walks of varying lengths. Conditions on the plateau can differ considerably from those in the village, so cable-car operations, weather and trail status should always be checked before departure.

When to visit

The thermal baths make Leukerbad suitable for year-round travel. The ski season usually runs from December to April, while June to October is more appropriate for hiking. Four to seven nights provide enough time to combine thermal wellness with a considered mountain programme.

The nearest railway station is in Leuk. Regular buses continue from the station to Leukerbad, while a direct road transfer can also be arranged.
