Luxury ski holidays in Courmayeur
Courmayeur lies in Italy’s Aosta Valley at the foot of Mont Blanc. The resort combines rewarding skiing with accomplished dining and the character of a historic Alpine town. Mornings unfold on the Checrouit and Val Veny slopes, while evenings centre on the restaurants and boutiques of Via Roma.
Skiing in Checrouit and Val Veny
Courmayeur’s ski area comprises 18 lifts and 33 pistes: 11 blue, 17 red and 5 black. Much of the terrain is particularly well suited to confident intermediate skiers. The slopes can be reached by cable car from central Courmayeur or by gondola from Dolonne.
The Checrouit side offers sunny pistes and a strong collection of mountain restaurants. Val Veny is known for longer descents and open views of the Mont Blanc massif. Experienced skiers can explore the higher Youla and Arp sectors, while off-piste itineraries require suitable conditions and the guidance of a qualified mountain professional.
Skyway Monte Bianco
Skyway Monte Bianco rises from Entrèves to Punta Helbronner at approximately 3,466 metres. Its upper station has a circular viewing terrace overlooking Mont Blanc, surrounding glaciers and the major summits of the Western Alps.
Skyway is separate from Courmayeur’s groomed ski area. High-alpine routes begin at Punta Helbronner, including the Vallée Blanche descent towards Chamonix. These glacier itineraries should only be attempted with a professional guide, avalanche equipment and a current assessment of snow and weather conditions.
Hotels, restaurants and thermal baths
Accommodation options include Le Massif near the lift, Alpine hotels in central Courmayeur and chalets in Entrèves or Dolonne. Location has a noticeable effect on the stay: Via Roma is convenient for dining and evening walks, while properties closer to the lifts simplify the start of each ski day.
QC Terme Pré-Saint-Didier lies approximately ten kilometres from Courmayeur. Its outdoor thermal pools overlook the surrounding mountains and make a natural addition after several days on the slopes or as part of a dedicated wellness programme.
Courmayeur in summer
During summer, Courmayeur becomes a base for exploring Val Ferret and Val Veny. The surrounding area offers sections of the Tour du Mont Blanc, trails towards the Miage and Brenva glaciers, mountain biking and climbing. A summer itinerary can also include Skyway Monte Bianco, golf in Val Ferret and lunches at Alpine refuges.
Five to seven nights allow enough time for a winter stay. A tailor-made journey may include accommodation, private transfers from Geneva, Turin or Milan, ski passes, equipment rental, private instruction and mountain-guide services.
