Holidays in Jasper National Park

Jasper lies in Alberta, in the northern Canadian Rockies. The destination combines mountain trails, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and wildlife viewing with winter skiing at Marmot Basin.

Three or four nights generally provide enough time for a first visit. A stay of five to seven nights allows for a more relaxed exploration of the park or a longer itinerary along the Icefields Parkway towards Lake Louise and Banff.

Planning a summer itinerary

A summer programme may include Maligne Lake, Athabasca and Sunwapta Falls, the Valley of the Five Lakes and accessible sections of the Icefields Parkway. Walks vary considerably in length and difficulty, making it important to select routes according to experience and fitness.

July and August normally offer the widest choice of alpine trails. Snow may remain at higher elevations in June, while September brings cooler conditions. Trail, road and recovery-area updates should always be checked before arrival.

Winter holidays in Jasper

Marmot Basin is the principal winter ski area, with terrain for different ability levels. Other seasonal experiences may include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and stargazing when conditions permit.

Winter itineraries require additional planning because of limited daylight, rapidly changing weather and road conditions. Driving the Icefields Parkway requires a suitable vehicle and a current check of operational restrictions.

Choosing accommodation and arranging travel

Downtown Jasper provides convenient access to restaurants, shops and the railway station. Cabins and lodges outside the townsite offer a quieter setting but usually require a car or arranged transfers. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge lies separately beside Lac Beauvert.

Jasper can be reached by road or rail. A valid national park pass is required. Hotels, transfers and popular summer experiences should be reserved well in advance for peak travel dates.
