Hotel description

Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is one of the most luxurious hotels in Chiang Rai, where jungle adventure meets genuine wilderness indulgence. The resort sits on a mountain ridge in northern Thailand, commanding sweeping views across three countries — Thailand, Myanmar and Laos — and the waters of the Mekong River. Guests can enjoy a serene jungle panorama, the resort's own elephant camp with an active conservation and research programme, a spa nestled among tropical greenery, and the chance to cruise along this legendary river, brushing against the cultures of the three nations that converge here. The resort comprises 40 deluxe rooms and 15 suites, including 6 family suites, decorated in an explorer-inspired Lanna aesthetic, while the all-inclusive Discovery packages let guests immerse themselves fully in this secluded corner of Southeast Asia.

Accommodation at Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort

The resort offers 40 deluxe rooms and 15 suites, including 6 family suites, decorated in a style that pays homage to the intrepid explorers who mapped the Mekong River centuries ago. The interiors blend the rich traditions of Lanna culture with elegant colonial touches: dark wood panelling, intricate elephant motifs, teak furniture and local artwork sit alongside vintage travel trunks, antique brass fittings and leather straps that lend a Western traveller's charm. Each room is named after a particular region along the Mekong, and the artworks above the headboards reflect the unique character of these historic places; rooms and private balconies look out over the three-country panorama and elephants grazing below.

The resort is located in the Chiang Saen district of Chiang Rai province, an hour's drive from Chiang Rai International Airport, with a complimentary limousine transfer provided for all guests; the journey from Chiang Mai takes around 4.5 hours by car or 70 minutes by helicopter. The hotel sits at the confluence of the Mekong and Ruak rivers, right on the border with Myanmar and Laos, close to the historic Golden Triangle, the village of Sop Ruak and the Opium Museum.

Spa by Nature occupies a three-storey open-air pavilion set among tropical greenery, where the scent of lemongrass fills the air; guests can retreat to teak-decorated suites, share a milk bath for two and enjoy side-by-side massage sessions overlooking the three-country panorama. The treatment menu draws on centuries-old wellness traditions of northern Thailand and local medicinal ingredients; for yoga and massage in the heart of nature, guests can head to a separate pavilion set among the rice fields. The spa features three couples' treatment rooms with shower, herbal steam room and an open terrace with a floor-set mosaic tub, two luxurious treatment rooms with a balcony for outdoor massage, a wellness room, and the Spa by Nature massage pavilion amid the rice paddies. Signature programmes include the 135-minute Mahout's Relaxation Package, combining traditional Thai massage with stretching and pressure-point work, a warm herbal compress infused with moringa oil and an anti-ageing "Golden Silk" facial treatment, as well as the 180-minute Lanna Ritual built around plai ginger, prized for its anti-inflammatory properties, featuring a scrub, wrap, shower and massage.

Both on the resort grounds and in the surrounding area, guests can enjoy a packed programme of active pursuits and jungle adventure in the Golden Triangle.

The rustic Garden Terrace, overlooking the Mekong valley, is ideal for daytime ceremonies and evening banquets and accommodates up to 60 guests. For honeymooners, the resort offers seclusion, shared spa treatments for two, and candlelit dinners amid the rice fields or in the company of elephants.
