Hotel description

Thorngrove Manor is not simply a hotel — it is a work of architectural art, created with obsessive passion, humanity and spirit. The Manor has been awarded two prestigious Michelin Keys, the hotel industry's highest distinction granted for excellence in architecture and interior design together with quality and consistency of service. For 28 years it was a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, achieving 96.4% in its most recent mystery inspection, before choosing in 2024 to continue independently, celebrating its own iconic brand.

It is a fusion of architectural art, boutique accommodation and a celebration of the decorative and fine arts. Every corner of Thorngrove holds an exceptional antique collection: rare French tapestries, bronze statues, Meissen and Sèvres 18th-century porcelain, Waterford crystal, antique mantle clocks and Scottish stained glass window panels dating to 1890. Every detail is crafted with meticulous attention to honour the vision and celebrate beauty.

Thorngrove is designed exclusively for romantic couples seeking absolute privacy. There are never any other guests — only one couple is accepted at any one time, ensuring an unparalleled level of seclusion. The estate accepts no group bookings and holds no events. It is a living art-form, the embodiment of human energy, devotion, toil and craftsmanship, continuing to evolve, mature and delight.

Accommodation at Thorngrove Manor Hotel

Thorngrove Manor offers exceptionally limited accommodation — just four unique spaces, each individually designed and distinctive in every aspect. Only one guest couple is accepted at any one time, ensuring absolute privacy and full use of the garden. Each suite is an independent work of art, combining luxurious European antique furnishings, exquisite fabrics from leading design houses, plush hand-crafted Brintons Axminster carpets, antique porcelain and crystal. Every suite features a dedicated antique dining setting served with hallmarked 18th- and 19th-century armorial sterling silver, transforming each meal into a true ceremony. The property is not suited for those with mobility impairments or those unable to climb stairs with ease.

Rooms overview

Thorngrove Manor is located at 2 Glenside Lane, Stirling, in the scenic Adelaide Hills — South Australia's oldest wine-producing region. Adelaide's CBD is just 20 minutes away, and Adelaide Airport is approximately 40 minutes by car. The charming historic village of Stirling, with its restaurants and cafés, is a 10-minute walk (800 metres) from the property.

Thorngrove Manor offers an exclusively private dining format — all meals are served directly to guests' suites, terrace or garden, with no communal dining rooms.

A romantic in-room breakfast is included in the room rate and served at any preferred time in the dedicated dining area, garden or on the terrace.

A private four-course dinner is prepared from the freshest local produce — many vegetables, herbs and fruits come from the Manor's own organic kitchen garden, eggs from free-range hens on the property, and seafood sourced sustainably from South Australia. Dinner is served with antique armorial sterling silver and Sferra Irish linen napery. BYO wine welcome — the Manor does not sell alcohol.

The private Afternoon Tea / Luncheon for two is held in the majestic King's Chambers: tiered plates with delicate sandwiches, hot savouries, pastries, scones with house-made organic preserves and fruit from local orchards — all presented on antique Wedgwood or Portmeirion china before a roaring log fire.

A Garden or Lakeside Picnic — a celebratory hamper with smoked salmon, roast beef, duck, regional cheeses and seasonal fruit, presented in an English willow basket with a Tweedmill wool blanket, crystal glasses and Portmeirion china, for enjoyment in the garden or at the nearby Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens lake.

A Charcuterie Platter — a regional selection of Adelaide Hills delicacies including duck, roast beef, chicken, quail, prawns and house-made salads, available as a lighter evening dining alternative.
