La Dolce Vita Orient Express: Italy from a Legendary Train

14.09.2026

In 1883 the Orient Express made its first journey from Paris to Istanbul (then Constantinople), showing just how comfortable train travel could be. Today La Dolce Vita Orient Express revives the culture of rail travel with meticulously crafted journeys through Italy and beyond.

The journey begins at La Dolce Vita Lounge at Roma Ostiense station, created by Franco-Mexican artist, architect and designer Hugo Toro. Its artworks set the mood for discovery, evoking iconic European cities and exotic lands, and guests relax here while the train staff take care of check-in. The train’s interiors are by Milan studio Dimorestudio, inspired by great designers such as Carlo Scarpa, Gio Ponti and Ignazio Gardella.

Cabins and cuisine

The train has 12 Deluxe cabins, 18 Suites and the exclusive La Dolce Vita Suite. All cabins have private bathrooms and space to relax and read, and La Dolce Vita Suite also has a living room with lounge and dining area and a dressing room.

From dawn until late at night, guests are accompanied by cuisine from the finest masters: leisurely breakfasts and lunches, the timeless ritual of the Italian aperitivo and refined dinners by Heinz Beck, featuring authentic dishes from the regions the train passes through. Noble materials in the restaurant and bar cars delight the eye, and live classical and contemporary Italian music brings each day to a perfect close.

Journeys

Themed itineraries are dedicated to Venice, Tuscany and Sicily, wine and golf, and some journeys are timed to the Venice Carnival, the Palio di Siena and the Christmas and New Year holidays. The train also runs from Rome to Istanbul and back.

The five-day Grand Tour, starting and ending in Rome, offers the romance of Venice’s canals and palazzi, the beauty of the Adriatic coast at Bari, the secrets of the ancient cave city of Matera, the sea and Mount Etna in Taormina and the architectural treasures of Palermo. Each day has its own programme: the panoramic terrace of Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, an after-hours visit to the Doge’s Palace, a guided walk through the Sassi of Matera, an ascent of Etna with a volcanologist, a Sicilian dessert class, and visits to the UNESCO-listed Monreale Cathedral and a local winery.

These and many other memorable moments await aboard La Dolce Vita Orient Express.
