After a half-hour foot tour, you'll understand why Quito was the first city of the world to be on the UNESCO cultural heritage list. The city was named by the Kitus tribe, which had a region long before the Spanish conquest. The city was the capital of the State of Quito until the end of Spanish colonial rule. Franciscan's Order was the first of the Orders approved in Quito. Franciscans immediately began construction of a monastery, which has become a centre of education and art and has their own schools of painting and sculpture (San Francesco Church attends the tour). The main area of Plaza Grande is the main building of the country: the Cafederal Building, the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop Palace and the building of Mary. We're going to visit the best model of colonial art in the city, the Jesuit temple, whose facade is covered by a complex massacre. The beautiful view of the whole city will open to you from Panesilo's checkpoint with the statue of the Virgin Mary with wings, the patron of the city.

There are two places to visit the equator line, and we're going to both places:

Mitad del Mundo City. The city of Mitad del Mundo is a tourist and merchant centre where tourists can detect a monument made in memory of the 1736 geodetic expedition that established an equator line in this place. The Sirdin Mira tourist complex belongs to the prefecture of Picincha Province, Ecuador. It is located in the parish of San Antonio in the Quito Capital District, north of the city of Quito. The premises of the complex are based on the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations. Between 1979 and 1982, a 30-metre-heavy monument marked the location where the equator line was considered to have been passing. The centre of the monument departs the equator line for many years.
Countless tourists crossed it. But in fact, the whole design is located 240 m south of the real line, which was calculated in the twentieth century rightly due to the emergence of a GPS positioning system.
  • Museum Intinian. In this museum, you will be able to conduct a series of experiments that explain the influence of the equator line on the natural forces of nature. Also here, you will receive information on the culture of ancient peoples, and we will be able to see a series of toys of different cultures in South America.
