Lake Naivasha Nature Holidays
Lake Naivasha Nature Holidays
Lake Naivasha between safari destinations
Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in the Great Rift Valley and a wetland of international importance. Travellers come for boat safaris, birdwatching, hippo sightings and a quieter stay beside the water. Unlike Kenya’s national parks, the experience focuses on the lake environment rather than traditional game drives.
Experiences around the lake
Boat safaris and Crescent Island
A guided boat trip may reveal African fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants and other waterbirds. Hippos should always be observed from a safe distance. The itinerary can also include a guided nature walk at Crescent Island sanctuary.
Hell’s Gate and Mount Longonot
Nearby Hell’s Gate National Park is known for its cliffs, volcanic scenery and designated walking and cycling routes. Mount Longonot offers a more demanding hiking experience and is best planned as a separate day activity.
Planning the stay
When to visit
Lake Naivasha can be visited throughout the year. March to May is generally wetter, so boat trips and outdoor activities may be adjusted according to conditions. Mornings and evenings can feel cool because of the lake’s elevation.
Choosing a lodge
Accommodation should be selected according to lakeside access, boat departure points and the onward safari route. One or two nights suit a relaxed stop, while hiking or a full visit to Hell’s Gate requires additional time.
