Luxury Holidays in Andermatt

Andermatt lies in the Ursern Valley, surrounded by the mountain passes and peaks of Central Switzerland. The historic Alpine village retains an unhurried atmosphere while offering modern ski infrastructure, destination dining and one of Switzerland’s best-known hotels. Winter journeys focus on skiing and freeriding, while summer brings hiking, cycling, golf and scenic rail travel.

Skiing in Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis

The wider ski region connects the areas around Andermatt, Sedrun and Disentis. Gemsstock is known for its high-altitude terrain, long descents and demanding routes suited to experienced skiers. Off-piste skiing requires a certified mountain guide and a careful assessment of avalanche conditions.

The sunnier slopes of Nätschen and Gütsch offer gentler skiing, with pistes extending towards the Oberalp Pass and Sedrun. Mountain trains form part of the transport network between different sectors, so each day should be planned around current lift and railway schedules.

The Chedi Andermatt

The resort’s leading hotel is the five-star The Chedi Andermatt, where natural Alpine materials are combined with Asian-inspired design. The hotel includes an extensive spa, indoor and outdoor pools, restaurants and dedicated facilities for storing and preparing ski equipment.

Its position close to Andermatt railway station and the Nätschen lifts makes The Chedi convenient for a winter ski journey. The hotel also works well for a slower stay centred on spa treatments, mountain views and destination dining.

Summer in Andermatt

From June to September, the surrounding mountains open for hiking, road cycling and mountain biking. Days can include routes towards the Gotthard, Furka and Oberalp passes, a round at the 18-hole Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course or a panoramic journey aboard the Glacier Express.

Mountain weather can change quickly, and demanding routes should be arranged with an experienced guide. Opening dates for passes, cable cars and high-altitude trails depend on snow conditions.

When to visit

The main ski season generally runs from December to early April, although piste conditions vary by altitude and weather. June to September is the most suitable period for hiking, golf and journeys across the mountain passes. A stay of four to seven nights allows time for outdoor activities, spa experiences and dining without changing hotels frequently.
