Luxury Holidays in Crans-Montana

Crans-Montana occupies a sunny plateau in the Swiss canton of Valais at approximately 1,500 metres. The resort combines two centres: Crans, known for boutiques, restaurants and golf, and the livelier Montana area. Its south-facing position provides broad views across the Valais Alps, extending from the Matterhorn towards Mont Blanc.

Skiing from the resort to Plaine Morte

The Crans-Montana ski area offers approximately 140 kilometres of pistes, rising from the resort to Plaine Morte at almost 3,000 metres. Red runs account for much of the terrain, making the destination particularly suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers. Beginners have access to dedicated learning areas and ski-school programmes.

Broad, sunny pistes extend across the Cry d’Er, Bellalui and Violettes sectors. Experienced guests can explore steeper descents and slopes associated with World Cup racing. Any off-piste itinerary should be planned according to current avalanche conditions and undertaken with a qualified mountain guide.

Five-star hotels and dining

Crans-Montana has one of the most varied collections of five-star hotels in the Swiss Alps. Six Senses Crans-Montana combines convenient lift access with extensive wellness facilities. Guarda Golf Hôtel & Résidences is positioned near the centre of Crans and the golf course. LeCrans occupies an elevated setting above the resort, while Crans Ambassador is known for its Alpine views and Nescens spa.

Location should be considered alongside hotel category. Central Crans suits guests who prioritise restaurants, boutiques and evening walks, whereas hotels higher above the resort may offer more efficient access to the lifts. Rooms, ski lessons and popular restaurants require early reservations during peak winter weeks.

Summer, golf and the Valais landscape

In summer, Crans-Montana becomes a destination for golf, hiking and cycling. The Severiano Ballesteros course hosts the Omega European Masters and is distinguished by its mountain setting. The shorter Jack Nicklaus course provides an alternative for a more compact round.

Walking routes follow historic irrigation channels, cross forests and Alpine meadows, and continue towards the high-altitude landscape of Plaine Morte. Lakes Grenon, Moubra and Étang Long are suitable for waterside walks and seasonal activities. A stay can also include visits to the vineyards of Valais and tastings of regional wines.

When to visit

The ski season generally extends from December to April, although piste conditions vary with altitude and weather. June to September is the most suitable period for golf, hiking and cycling. Five to seven nights allow time for mountain activities, spa treatments and dining. Crans-Montana can be reached via Sierre, with onward connections by funicular or road transfer.
