The Blue Water Hotel and Spa is a five-star beachfront hotel in Wadduwa on Sri Lanka’s west coast. Surrounded by coconut groves and overlooking the Indian Ocean, the property combines a peaceful tropical setting with distinctive architecture. Opened in 1997, it was the final completed project of renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. The hotel reflects his approach to Tropical Modernism through open courtyards, spacious verandas and corridors that create a natural transition between indoor areas and the surrounding landscape.
Water is the central element of the architectural concept. Cascading ponds, fountains and waterways extend across the grounds, while the expansive swimming pool visually connects the lobby with landscaped gardens and coconut palms. Terracotta floors, locally sourced wood, carved details and carefully selected natural colours complement the nearby ocean, sandy coastline and tropical vegetation. A nautical theme also appears throughout the property, particularly in the design of its restaurants and bars.
The hotel is suited to relaxing beach holidays, culinary experiences, wellness retreats, active leisure and special events. Accommodation includes rooms and suites with private balconies or terraces and sea views. The Bawa Room holds a special place in the collection as an original Geoffrey Bawa interior preserved within the hotel.
