Holidays in Québec’s Laurentians
The Laurentians are a mountain and resort region north of Montréal, known for forested landscapes, lakes, small towns and year-round outdoor activities. Mont-Tremblant is its best-known resort, although the wider region offers several distinct areas that can be combined within a scenic driving itinerary.
Experiences throughout the year
Summer is suited to hiking, cycling, golf, canoeing, kayaking and time beside the lakes. A longer itinerary can include Mont-Tremblant National Park, where forest trails, waterfalls and routes of varying difficulty offer a quieter alternative to the resort area.
Autumn brings the region’s celebrated forest colours. The most vivid scenery is usually seen in late September and early October, although timing varies according to weather and location.
Winter focuses on downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and other snow-based activities. Resort opening dates and trail conditions should always be checked before travelling.
Choosing where to stay
Mont-Tremblant is practical for travellers who want convenient access to ski slopes, restaurants and resort facilities. Lakeside hotels, forest lodges and private chalets provide a quieter nature-focused experience. Saint-Sauveur is closer to Montréal and works well for a shorter mountain stay.
Planning transport and park visits
The Laurentians are normally reached from Montréal. A rental car or pre-arranged private transfer provides the greatest flexibility for travelling between resorts, lakes and protected areas.
Online access reservations are recommended for Mont-Tremblant National Park, particularly during weekends and popular seasons. A carefully planned itinerary helps account for travel distances while balancing outdoor activities with time to relax.
