Holidays at Niagara Falls in Ontario
Niagara Falls consists of three waterfalls spanning the border between Canada and the United States. The Ontario side provides wide views of the Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, together with riverfront walks and several ways to experience the landscape from different levels.
One or two nights are generally sufficient for a first visit. A longer stay allows time for the Niagara Gorge’s nature trails or a wider itinerary through the region.
What to include in your itinerary
The main viewpoints are located around Table Rock Centre and the riverfront promenade through Queen Victoria Park. Journey Behind the Falls offers a closer perspective of the Horseshoe Falls, while Niagara Parks Power Station and its tunnel combine industrial heritage with a lower observation platform.
Boat trips operate seasonally, so schedules should be confirmed before travelling. The falls are illuminated after dark throughout the year, making an evening return to the riverfront worthwhile.
The best time to visit
Late spring to early autumn provides the widest choice of experiences. Summer brings the greatest availability of seasonal attractions but also the highest visitor numbers, making advance reservations advisable.
Spring and autumn are generally quieter, although conditions beside the falls can be cool and wet. Winter offers dramatic ice-covered scenery and evening illumination, but some outdoor attractions close or operate on reduced schedules.
Choosing a hotel and planning transport
Fallsview is the most convenient area for accommodation close to the main viewpoints. Travellers should check the exact room category, as a hotel’s Fallsview location does not mean that every room has a direct view of the waterfalls. Clifton Hill suits families and entertainment-focused stays but has a busier atmosphere.
WEGO buses connect major hotels, tourist areas and Niagara Parks attractions. A car or pre-arranged private transfer is more practical when exploring the wider Niagara region.
