Year-round holidays in Whistler
Whistler is a mountain resort in British Columbia, approximately 120 kilometres north of Vancouver. Winter holidays centre on skiing across Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, while summer brings alpine hiking, mountain biking, lakeside activities and Coast Mountain scenery.
Four to seven nights generally allow enough time to experience the resort without rushing. The most suitable duration depends on skiing ability, seasonal activities and whether the itinerary also includes Vancouver or other parts of British Columbia.
Planning a ski holiday
Whistler Blackcomb spans two mountains and provides terrain for beginners, intermediate skiers and experienced visitors. The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola connects the mountain areas, making it possible to explore both during the same day.
December to March is the principal winter period. Terrain availability in November and spring depends on snow and weather conditions. Lift access, equipment and lessons should be arranged in advance for popular dates.
Summer in the mountains
Summer itineraries may include alpine hiking, mountain biking, lake visits and scenic gondola journeys. High-elevation trails open gradually as the snow melts, so current trail and lift operations should be checked shortly before arrival.
July and August provide the widest choice of summer activities but also attract the most visitors. June and September are generally quieter, although some alpine routes may have seasonal restrictions.
Choosing an area and arranging transfers
Whistler Village is the central pedestrian area, providing convenient access to lifts, restaurants and shops. Upper Village lies at the base of Blackcomb and offers a quieter setting. Creekside has its own gondola access to Whistler Mountain and a more relaxed atmosphere.
The journey from Vancouver International Airport generally takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Travellers can use a scheduled shuttle or arrange a private transfer. A car is usually unnecessary when staying in one of the central resort areas.
