Luxury Holidays in Val Gardena
Dolomite peaks blushing at sunset, Ladin traditions and the welcoming villages of Ortisei and Selva — a valley three cultures share one mountain story.
Luxury ski holidays in Val Gardena
Val Gardena is a South Tyrolean valley framed by the UNESCO-listed Dolomites. Its three main villages — Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva — offer distinct settings for a ski holiday. Winter journeys focus on Sellaronda, Seceda and the celebrated Saslong piste, while summer brings hiking, via ferrata and mountain biking.
Ortisei, Santa Cristina or Selva
Ortisei combines a pedestrian centre, restaurants and boutiques with convenient lifts to Seceda and Alpe di Siusi. Santa Cristina occupies a central position in the valley, providing access to Saslong, Col Raiser and the Seceda ski area.
Selva lies closest to the Sella massif and offers the most direct access to Sellaronda. Hotel selection should reflect the intended pace of the holiday: ski-in, ski-out convenience, proximity to the village centre, a substantial spa or a quieter chalet setting.
Sellaronda, Saslong and Seceda
The Val Gardena–Alpe di Siusi ski area offers approximately 175 kilometres of prepared pistes and forms part of Dolomiti Superski. Sellaronda circles the Sella massif in either direction when weather, snow and lift conditions permit.
The Saslong World Cup piste descends from Ciampinoi towards Santa Cristina. Seceda is known for its views of the jagged Odle peaks, long descents and connection with Col Raiser. The broad, gentler slopes of Alpe di Siusi are particularly suitable for families and less experienced skiers.
Hotels and South Tyrolean dining
Accommodation ranges from spa resorts and family-friendly hotels to chalets near the lifts. Options in and around the valley include ADLER Spa Resort Dolomiti, Alpenroyal Grand Hotel, Alpin Garden Luxury Maison and Alpina Dolomites on Alpe di Siusi.
Ski days can be planned around lunches in mountain huts serving Ladin, Tyrolean and Italian dishes. Leading hotels and restaurants should be reserved well in advance for Christmas, New Year and the busiest February dates.
Summer in Val Gardena
Summer itineraries can explore Seceda, the trails around Sassolungo and Puez-Odle Nature Park. Guided hikes, via ferrata routes, mountain biking and visits to alpine huts can be combined with an introduction to Ladin culture and Val Gardena’s woodcarving tradition.
Five to seven nights work well for a winter stay. A complete journey may include road transfers from Bolzano, Innsbruck or Verona, accommodation, ski passes, equipment rental and private instruction. Lift schedules and Sellaronda access should always be confirmed for the intended travel dates.
